Chapter 7 : Committees

Article 29 : Competition Committee
  1. The Competition Committee shall be established within IFS.
  2. The Competition Committee shall handle matters regarding the operation of tournaments, competition rules, refereeing techniques, facilities, study of equipment and other sumo-related matters.
  3. The rules regarding the organization and operation of the Competition Committee shall be determined separately by the Board of Directors.
Article 30 : Medical Committee
  1. The Medical Committee shall be established within IFS.
  2. The Medical Committee shall handle medical and scientific research regarding sumo as well as doping-related issues.
  3. The rules regarding the organization and operation of the Medical Committee shall be determined separately by the Board of Directors.
Article 31 : Ethics Committee
  1. The Ethics Committee shall be established within IFS.
  2. The Ethics Committee’s main responsibility is to provide the means of ensuring that IFS is aware of updating the framework of ethical principles, including a code of ethics, based upon the values and principles enshrined in the Olympic Charter.
  3. The Ethics Committee shall also investigate complaints raised due to non-compliance of ethical principles, including breaches of the IFS Code of Ethics. When deemed necessary, it shall propose sanctions to the Board of Directors.
Article 32 : Athletes’ Committee
  1. Athletes’ Committee shall be established within IFS.
  2. The Athletes’ Committee’s main responsibility is to provide a means of ensuring that IFS is aware of the opinions of current active sumo athletes concerning major issues affecting the sport.
  3. The rules regarding the organization and operation of the Athletes’ Committee shall be determined separately by the Board of Directors in accordance with the guidelines relative to the creation of an athletes’ commission made by the International Olympic Committee (hereinafter called “IOC”).
Article 33 : Ad Hoc Committees
In addition to the committees provided in the preceding four Articles, IFS may establish ad hoc committees such as Education and Development Committee, Public Relations Committee, Women & Sports Committee, Environment Committee, Finance Committee, and other such committees as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.
